Running your car low on gas

Running your car low on gas is actually bad for the engine.

The gasoline that you normally tank is maybe clear when you look at it but it contains very small pieces of dirt. These dirt particles then settle at the bottom of your gas tank along with other junk (like rust) that might find its way there. So when you run a car low on gas these particles might be sucked up by the fuel pump and damage, or destroy, critical parts of the fuel system and engine. If you want to take good care of your car you should not let the gas level go below one-quarter of a tank.
